Rivals Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) and De La Salle University (DLSU) had different results against lower ranked team. The ADMU Blue Eagles toyed with UST Growling Tigers and won 82-57 while DLSU Green Archers were not as fortunate as they fell to the last place UE Red Warriors, 74-69.
The Archers who are one of the teams battling for the 3rd and 4th spots were ambushed by a UE five that was routed by 41 in their last game. La Salle was still leading by 2 after the first quarter before yielding led for good in the 2nd quarter. Paul Zamar had 19 points and John Noble socred 16 coming of the bench to lead the Warriors who upped their record to 2-7. Reserve Norbert Torres meanwhile, led DLSU with 12 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks in 26 minutes of play.
In the main game, Ateneo never gave UST a chance. They led from start to finish and even took leads over 30 point at some point of the game before Coach Norman Black decided to give the bench players some playing time. Forwards Nico Salva and Justin Chua led the Eagles in scoring with 20 and 18 points respectively. Ateneo shot an amazing 90.3% in Free throw line (28/31) compared to UST’s 56% clip (14/25). UST’s Jeric Teng had 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 asists in the losing effort.
