The De la Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers followed up with their victory over the UP Fighting Maroons with a win over the UE Red Warriors to up their record to 2-0 and grab the provisional lead in the men’s senior basketball tournament in the 75th season of the UAAP.
The game was tight in the first period and until the start the second as both teams were just within 2 points from each other. A period ending 9-0 run spearheaded by blue chip recruit Jeron Teng catapulted La Salle to a 7-point lead at the halftime mark, 29-22. The Red Warriors outscored the Archers 17-14 in the 3rd quarter to bring down the lead to 4 going into the final 10 minutes of play. Adrian Santos put UE to within one point 50-51 with 6:28 left in regulation. The Green Archers then made a game-breaking 10-0 run to push the lead to 11 and cruise to an 8-point triumph.
Teng completed a double victory for the sons of PBA veteran Alvin Teng as he led DLSU with 16 points just hours after brother Jeric helped UST slay the defending champs Ateneo. Point guard LA Revilla and Jovet Mendoza scored 11 a piece for La Salle. Roi Sumang and Adrian Santos combined for 34 points and 19 rebounds to pace UE who dropped their second straight game.
