2012 Big League Softball World Series: Team Philippines bags the championship!

The Asia-Pacific representative finally had a breakthrough by winning the 2012 Big League Softball World Series over West representatives Los Angeles, California, 14-2.   After being runners-up 3 times in the last 4 years, the Philippines finally won that elusive first World Series title.

Starting Pitcher Rizza Bernardino completed the 5 inning game giving up only 2 runs and 5 hits. She has a 1.71 ERA in the tournament. Bernardino was not only dominant at the mound but also on the plate as she a home run resulting to 2 runs and she scored 3 times in the game. Left Fielder Mary Joy Floranza hit another home run for the Philippines.  The Philippines were so dominant at the plate as if they were venting years of frustration.  The Softbelles from the Asia-Pacific battered West’s Starter Christine Washington with 6 hits.  The Filipinas got help from poor defending if their opponents resulting to a 7-0 lead after 2 innings. They somehow slowed down in the 3rd and 4th innings were they only scored 1 run per inning to widen the margin at 9-0 at the end of the 4th. They poured it on the 5th by scoring 5 runs to lead 14-0.  West scored to runs at the bottom of the inning for the final margin.  All 9 Filipina starters had at least one hit in the game.

2012 Big League Softball World Series: Philippines battles West for the Championship

The Philippine has reached the championship game of the 2012 Big League Softball World Series.  The Philippines representing the Asia-Pacific will face West representatives from Los Angeles, California, USA.  The Philippines (6-2) started the tournament at the wrong foot after losing its first 2 matches, the Filipina batters, however, managed to recover and streaked to 6 consecutive wins. They are hoping to avenge one of their losses in the Championship match.

Philippines goes to the championships!

The squad is managed by Ms. Ana Santiago and assisted by George Barredo and Sherrylou Valenzuela.  The championship match will be shown at ESPN 2.  The Philippines were runners-up last year to Grand Rapids. Grand Rapids finished with a 6-2 record this year similar to the Philippines but the Philippines got the finals slot as they beat the District 9 representatives , 12-2, in their round-robin match.

District 9 captures Big League Softball Title

Grand Rapids captured its third title in 4 years in the Big League Softball World Series after defeating Manila 9-2 in the finals. It was the third time that the 2 teams meet in the finals and the result has been the same. It was a tough loss for the Asia-Pacific Champions Manila as they won against the District 9 Champs in the elimination round.

Pitcher Morgan Groom completed the game for Grand Rapids and limited Manila to just 6 hits. The 2011 Champions had 10 hits and was helped by the 5 errors by the Manila girls.

Kalamazoo, Michigan- Team Manila rallied from a 0-5 deficit to stun Puerto Rico 8-7 and reach the finals of the Big League Softball World Series. The Asia-Pacific Champions will face a familiar foe in Grand Rapids, who have defeated them in the finals in the last 2 years.

The Pinay batters finished the elimination round with a 7-2 record same as Grand Rapids and host Kalamazoo. They got the first finals berth owing to a better win over the other factor. The finals will be at 5 am Manila time.
