2011 PBA Caloy’s Mock Draft

27 08 2011

The 2011 PBA Draft will be tomorrow and the 10 PBA teams will be choosing among 34 prospects.  It is time for me to do a mock draft.

This year’s draft is filled with Smart-Gilas members and marque guards. It is clear that this year’s draft lack marquee big men. Here is my  mock draft:

1. Powerade – JV Casio

Casio has been proving in DLSU and Smart-Gilas that he is capable of becoming the next premier shooter in the PBA. If he is picked by Powerade, he will compete for a starting guard spot. He can be effective at 1-2. Casio’s selection could also give Gary David some firepower support and more time in the 3 spot.

Pros: Shooting range, big game experience

Cons: Size

Other options: Lee/ Lassiter

2.  Rain or Shine – Paul Lee

Lee and Norwood could form a very deadly backcourt combination for Yeng Guiao.

Pros: Offensive prowess, shooting

Other options: Lassiter/Lutz

3. Barako Bull– Marcio Lassiter

Tall and versatile Lassiter can lock in the SF position for the Barako Bull. Whether or not Hontiveros will be back, Lassiter can be a primary scoring option for the Barako Bull.

Other options: Lutz, Barroca

4. Powerade – Mac Baracael

Powerade will need some rebounders in the coming season and Baracael has been a tough defender and rugged rebounder with his time with the Gilas. He can also defend imports and the opponent’s star players. It will not be a surprise if he will picked this high.

Other options: Lutz, Ballesteros

5. BMEG – Chris Lutz

It will be hard to pass up if Lutz will still be around in this position. After playing with the Smart-Gilas, he has shown that he can play either forward positions in the PBA.

Other option: Barroca

6. Alaska – Mark Barroca

Mark Barroca will be perfect as Tenorio’s understudy. He can anchor Alaska if they decide to run more specially during import-laden conferences.

Other option: Ballesteros, Ababou, Salamat

7. Talk ‘N Text – Jason Ballesteros

The 6-8 Center could be drafted as trade bait by the TNT Texters. Many teams lack some big man and Ballesteros could be picked because of his size and experience with the Smart Gilas. If Japeth decided to suit up in the PBA this season, then mostly like this pick will be traded.

other options: Salamat, Ababou, Maliksi

8. Petron Blaze – Dylan Ababou

A reunion between Dylan and assistant coach Pido Jarencio is in the offing.

options: Maliksi, Cervantes

9. Barangay Ginebra – Reil Cervantes

A pick with potential at No.9

10. Barako Bull – Magi Sison

Potential could be a good back up for Dorian Pena.

So, how about you? Who are your picks?
