2012 WORLD 9-BALL CHAMPIONSHIP Day 2: PHL pool masters 12-5 in their first matches

Doha, Qatar – After yesterday’s 7-2 win-loss record for Filipino cue artists, five of the eight other Filipino participants won their first match of the 2012 World 9-Ball Championship.  The early winners in Day 2 action were Ronnie Alcano, Antonio Gabica, Dennis Orcullo, Lee Van Corteza, and Marlon Caneda. After their first matches, the Philippine contingent has a 12-5 win-loss record.

Of the 5 Filipinos in the loser’s bracket, only 1 lost and got eliminated. Oliver Mendenilla was eliminated by Lo Li Wen of Chinese-Taipei, while Israel Rota, Joven Alba, Raymond Faraon, and Elvis Calasang defeated separate opponents to be one win away from a spot in the Round of 64 matches.  So far in the tournament, only Filipino got booted out of the competition and the Filipinos went 16-6 in all their matches so far.

In the Winner’s Bracket matches in Day 3, the Philippines has won 4 of its 7 matches. Efren “Bata” Reyes, Francisco Bustamante, Roberto Gomez, and Carlo Biado clinched spots in the knockout round while Ramil Gallego, Jundel Mazon, and Vicente Loyme were relegated to the loser’s bracket and they need to win one more game to qualify to the next stage.
