Action resumed at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena for the men’s senior basketball tournament in the Season 75 of the UAAP after having saturday games being cancelled due to bad weather. In the Sunday offering, Season 74 finalists FEU Tamaraws and ADMU Blue Eagles beat their opponents to grab their second wins of the season.
In the first game, the Far Eastern University Tamaraws (2-0) drubbed the DLSU Green Archers (2-1), 48-46 in a tight defensive battle. The game was close in all 40 minutes and it was only settled at the buzzer. The game was still tied at 46-all with 1:27 left after a split by RR Garcia. The FEU guards proved steadier than their DLSU counterparts at crunch time as Almond Vosotros lost the ball in a crucial possession while Michael Tolomia converted a jumper in the next play while being guarded by freshman Jeron Teng. The basket proved to be game’s final field goal as FEU was able to preserve the lead until the final buzzer sounded.
The second game was supposed to be a close game between two of the strongest teams this year but the expectations were far from reality as the ADMU Blue Eagles embarrassed the NU Bulldogs in their “home” arena. The Eagles took a double digit lead early in the first quarter and they kept on pouncing on NU’s inferior defense to cruise to a 24-point win 89-65. Ateneo’s Big 3 of Nico Salva, Kiefer Ravena, and Greg Slaughter combined for 52 points to negate the 22 point effort of Bobby Ray Park Jr. The Ateneo bench also did their part led by big man Justin Chua who finished with 12 points.
FEU now leads the standings at 2-0 and the last team left without a defeat. Ateneo and La Salle are now tied at 2-1 while NU drops to 1-1.
