Cong. Pacquiao sued by BIR for failing to submit documents

7 03 2012

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Region 12 is filing a case against pound for pound king and Sarangani Congressman Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao for failing to comply with the BIR’s request for him to submit documents relating to his business interests and income sources.

The BIR charged Paquiao of violating Section 266 or” failure to obey summons” of the National Internal Revenue Code. According to Regional Director Atty. Rozil Lozares, the BIR sent a subpoena to Pacquiao last January 24 for him to appear at the BIR office and submit documents and tax records. The BIR was forced to file a case when Pacquiao, the richest sportsman in the country, did not appear in the BIR office or submitted any of the requested documents.
