Al Sadd Sports Club, Doha, Qatar– Day 3 marked the entry of 32 players to the knockout stage of the competitions. The 32 were the winners of the winner’s bracket matches held yesterday. Among the 32 were 7 Filipinos led by former winners Efren “Bata” Reyes, Francisco “Django” Bustamante, and Ronnie “Volcano” Alcano. Also qualifying were Carlo Biado, Lee Van Corteza, Antonio Gabica, and Roberto Gomez. Other notable winners were Malta’s Tony Drago, Germany’s Thorsten Hohmann, Taipei’s Ko Pin Yi, Britain’s Darren Appleton, and German Ralph Souquet. The losers of the matches will need to win their do or die matches to be held tomorrow. Only 64 players out of the 128 participants will be playing in the money round. Nine other Filipinos still have chance to be in the next phase of the tournament that offers a top prize of $40,000. After 3 days, PHL cue masters have a combined record of 23 wins and 11 losses.
