Yesterday, Efren “Bata” Reyes and Francsico “Django” Bustamante marched on the winner’s bracket by winning their third respective matches of the 2010 US Open 9 Ball Tournament. Django Bustamante came back from a 1-4 deficit to beat Mexico’s Oscar Dominguez 11-6. Reyes on the other hand overwhelmed Japense Tomoroo Takano 11-2.  They are just two of the 32 unbeaten players left in the tournament.

The other Filipinos lost in their Day 4 match-ups. Amang Parica, Lee Van Corteza, Ramil Gallego, and Ronnie Alcano all bowed to their respective opponents.  They will now have to survive to loser’s bracket in order to win this very prestigious tournament.

Dennis Orcullo and Roberto Gomez made sure that the Philippine Flag will still be waving into the quarterfinal round of the 2010 World Cup of Pool. The pair is seeded third and will face Mika Immonen and Markus Juva in the quarterfinals.

The more fancied hometown pair of Efren “Bata” Reyes and Francisco “Django” Bustamante were eliminated by Indonesia.

Orcullo and Gomez qualified for the quarters by beating the Spanish pairing of David Alcaide and Francisco Sanchez Ruiz 8-4 at the Midtown Wing of the Robinsons Place Ermita.

caloycomment: Hopefully the Philippine team will win the tournament in front of the hometown crowd. The country needs some victories to erase some stigma of the recent tragedies. A successful staging of a World tournament in the country will show also show to the world that the Philippines is not a dangerous place.
