5 11 2011

The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters and the Meralco Bolts are slowing showing the league that they are indeed two of the best teams in the current Philippine Cup.  The Elasto Painters routed the winless Shopinas.com Clickers despite playing without head coach Yeng Guiao majority of the game due to some technical fouls. Meralco, meanwhile, defeated crowd favorite Barangay Ginebra Kings in the main game in last night’s doubleheader.

Chan is enjoying his best PBA season so far

Rain or Shine 96 – 75 Shopinas.com

For the 3rd game in a row, the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters soundly defeated their PBA opponents. After embarrassing Alaska and Meralco, the Elasto Painters routed the hapless Shopinas.com Clickers. The game was very close in the first half before Rain or Shine outscored the Shopinas 27-10 in the third period to pull away and raise their win-loss record to 6-1. The Clickers only made 5 baskets in 18 attempts in the fateful third period. Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao was ejected in the first half after incurring 2 technical fouls. He was meted a 2nd “T” after shoving Shopinas’ Ogie Menor who was taunting the RoS bench after scoring. Losing their coach inspired the Painters to pour it on and show why they are the league leaders right now. Jeff Chan is really having his best season as he broke his career high with 28 points. He made 4 triples in 9 attempts. Jervy Cruz had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Ryan Buenafe and JR Quinahan added 12 and 9 markers respectively. Rookie James Sena top scored for the Clickers with 15 followed by Menor’s 14. Read the rest of this entry »

Barangay Ginebra King’s point guard Willie Miller has been traded to Air21 Express for Nino Caneleta and a 2012 first round pick. The trade will give Ginebra another scoring forward and it will ease up a crowded backcourt that has 3 other healthy and capable point guards in Jayjay Helterbrand, Mike Cortez, and Rob Labagala. The trade will strengthen the backcourt of Air21 by having a veteran presence along Dondon Hontiveros, Wynnie Arboleda, Josh Urbiztondo, and Leo Avenido. Miller can play both guard positions. The 2012 Draft pick could potentially be a member of current Smart-Gilas Philippine Men’s Basketball Team.
