My Take: Detroit and Umpires

Oh boy, what is it with Detroit sports teams this season. A few months ago, the most famous “imperfect” game in baseball happened when umpire Jim Joyce denied Armando Galarraga and the Detroit Tigers a perfect game (one of the most difficult acts to pull off in sports).

Just yesterday, the Detroit Lions were somehow “robbed” by the referee when it’s go-ahead Calvin Johnson touchdown was ruled imcomplete. Oh, Detroit! Although it is just week 1 of the new NFL season, a win would have ended their sorry road losing streak. A win would have somehow ease the pain of the Matthew Stafford injury. But the refs said the pass was incomplete and their is NO TD. Some would way rules are rules but the decision really left a bitter taste on the mouth of the long suffering Lions fans.

Hopefully they can use this defeat to somehow have a decent season. An 8-8 record would really change the people’s outlook of the Lions. Two seasons ago they were winless but with the addition of QB Stafford, Safety Louis Delmas, DT Ndamukong Suh, and many other weapons, the Lions can probably have a respectable season. Hopefully the LBs and DBs will surprise its critics.
