The Energen Pilipinas Under-16 Youth Team completed the expected sweep yesterday of the 1st Southeast Asian Basketball Association (Seaba) U16 for Men by beating the Singapore U-16 Team, 70-52. It was the lowest scoring output for the squad in the tournament after averaging over 100 points a game in its first 3 games.
The Philippines (4-0) along with Malaysia (3-1), and Indonesia (2-2) will represent South East Asia in the Fiba Asia U16 tournament set on October 18 to 28 in Nha Trang City, Vietnam. The top teams of that tournament will represent Asia in the 2012 Fiba U17 World Championship.
Big men Gelo Vito (La Salle Greenhills) and tournament MVP Arvin Tolentino (San Beda) lead all scorers with 13 markers each. The Philippines only shot 31% in the field but had a 46-36 advantage in rebounds.
The loss dropped Singapore (1-3) to 4th place. Laos (0-5) is in last place in the tournament.
